Vision: the Imagined Testimony of Hildegard von Bingen

Visions: The Testimony of Hildegard von Bingen
A multimedia experience of light, song, music and storytelling of an imagined narrative by Hildegard of Bingen as she looks back at her life, alongside performance of her mesmeric chant in an atmospheric candlelit performance. The show is “an imagined testimony” as Hildegard lies on her deathbed, revisiting and re-experiencing meaningful episodes from her past, including the moment when she was taken from her family at the age of 8 and when she made the decision at the age of 42 to finally talk about and write down her visions. Clare Norburn has written three shows about women, including the medieval Abbess Hildegard of Bingen, for her medieval group The Telling, whose 17-date tour in 2018/19 will visit Buxton Festival, Music at Oxford, Stroud Green Festival, Little Missenden Festival, Kingston Festival of the Voice and Colchester Early Music, as well as this performance for Totnes Early Music Society.
