Torbay Brass Band

Torbay Brass Band

Truly a local band, the Torbay Brass Band was formed in 1976 by a group of local people who were employed at the South Devon College who shared an enthusiasm for brass playing.

The current band still retains its local connections through its members who, like their predecessors, are very proud to carry the name of Torbay wherever they go.

The band quickly established itself in the contesting world and joined the South West Brass Band Association where it worked its way through the nationally graded sections of the brass band world, achieving national success in 1993 when the band won the 2nd Section National Championship in London.

Since then the band found itself on a spiral down through the grading sections. However, the current players are fully determined and committed to turning this around.

The band also has a thriving Academy Brass group of 24 youngsters learning to play a brass instrument.
