The Burgess Hill-born actor, dramatist, composer, author studied drama under John Edmunds at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he also began to write and play music seriously for the first time.

He has composed scores for restored silent films, acted in and written plays for the BBC, written books, and presented both radio and television programmes.
