St John the Baptist

St John the Baptist

While fully retaining its traditional look, the church was refurbished in 2012, installing underfloor heating supplemented by wall-hung convector heaters of industrial strength, along with toilets and a fully-equipped kitchen at the far west end of the south aisle.

More importantly it has made it a very usable space, both for worship and for other activities for the church and the local community, with the pews being put on lockable wheels that means that for special events they can be reoriented or moved out of the way.

The nave can now be cleared in a matter of minutes for dances and village suppers, recitals, craft markets, sales of produce and other activities.

Architecturally, the main body of the church dates from the fifteenth century, while the big chancel is a rebuilding of the early fourteenth century and the Norman font is a survival from the twelfth-century church.
