St Clement's Church

St Clement's Church

St Clement's stands some 350ft above the main town, the present fabric dates partly from the 13th Century with some Norman traces and the building is Grade 1 listed. Of particular interest are the High Altar which dates from James I and the font of Purbeck stone dating from the 13th or possibly early 14th century.

The early part of the 21st century was a time when important changes took place in St Clement's. The purpose of this 're-ordering' was not only to conserve this historic building but also to enable it to be a more useful and welcoming presence in the lives of the people of our time. Removing the Victorian pews has created a bright open space for worship, and the addition of modern facilities encourages other community events to be held here.

The Parish Sung Eucharist takes place here on the first and third Sunday of the month with the first Sunday being particularly family friendly. There is a children's corner with toys and games. On Thursdays there is a said Holy Communion Service at 9:30am, followed by coffee for those who want to stay for a chat; light lunches are served throughout the winter months from 12:00pm until 1:30pm. Morning Prayer is said on Monday and Tuesday at 8:30am and on Thursday at 8:45am. A prayer group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm for about 45 minutes of quiet prayer.
