Mothecombe Beach

Flete Estate, Holbeton, PL8 1LB
Set within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and situated at the mouth of the Erme Estuary on the privately-owned Flete Estate, Mothercombe is an unspoilt sandy beach with shallow bathing waters, ideal for families. For those who enjoy such activities the beach is ideal for building sand castles and beach cricket. There are also rock pools to investigate and, with the waves small in size and the current minimal, it’s also a good place to learn to surf and bodyboard. The car park, which offers spaces for over 500 cars, is open daily till late, but can get very busy. Charges apply from the end of March through till the end of September and you will need to pay in cash. It is also located several hundred yards from the beach itself, which is accessed down a narrow track, making wheelchair access difficult. Adjacent to the car park is the Stonehouse restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as offering takeaways for those preferring to eat on the beach. The only public toilets are also to be found here. There are none on the beach itself. Dogs are not permitted on the beach between the start of May and the end of September. Walkers can also reach the beach along the South West Coast Path from either Noss Mayo to the west or Bigbury in the east, although if coming from Bigbury – be warned! You'll need to wade across the Erme at low tide!
